Kinder Room – September/October Update

Hello Parent’s,

We would like to wish Alexia a Happy 5th birthday and we hope that she enjoys her day.

The past few weeks in the kinder room have been very busy.  At the beginning of September we held a special person day, where the children were able to bring someone of great importance to them to kinder.  We had a great turn out.  The children were very excited to share their kinder room with their special person and also their special morning tea.  We hope that everyone who came had a great time and we look forward to having another special day at the end of Term 4.

The children were also fortunate enough to have Essendon Kinder Carnival come and spend some time with them on the 10th of September.  The children were given an Essendon T-shirt, hat and some stickers. They were placed into group of 6 children and then engaged in a number of activities.  The favourite activity was the jumping castle and the hand balling competition.  The highlight of the day was when the Essendon Mascot Skeeta turned up and kept the children very entertained.  He participated in activities with them and then danced to a ‘Skeeta remix’ with them. The children were then given the opportunity to have their photo taken with Skeeta.

During the last couple of weeks, the children have begun learning the phonics song.  The phonics song is designed to teach the children the letters of the alphabet and what the sound of each letter is.  They have taken to this really well with many of them singing the song throughout the day and correcting each other when they get mixed up.

At the beginning of Term 4, parents will be given the family section of their child’s transition statement along with some information about completing the forms.  The information which parents provide will be combined with Belinda’s section of the form and with parent permission sent off to the school to give them some insight into your child.  We are also hoping to hold a parent information evening where you can come and speak to a prep teacher about what to expect when your child starts school.  Information about this will follow in Term 4.

Please remember that our sun smart policy [Derby Street Enrolment Handbook – Page 9] is now in effect and children are required to bring a broad-brimmed hat or a legionnaire’s hat to kinder (Caps are not an acceptable piece of sun smart clothing), as well as their own sunscreen if they can’t use ours and also a drink bottle.  Children who do not have the proper sun smart clothing will be required to play on the veranda area.

If you have any questions in regards to your child please speak to kinder staff.

Thank You

Belinda, Nazneen and Julie
