BUSY BEES – MAY UPDATE

Over the past month in the Busy Bees Room, all the children have been busy exploring our camping area, with our camp fire and BBQ inside. The children learnt to cook on the fire and also fishing with the pond, fishing rods and magnetic sea creatures. The children have also had the opportunity to make their own choices with the ‘Self Choice Shelf’, which had a variety of puzzles, felt boards & pieces, chalk board, magnetic alphabet letters & boards, drawing and cutting newspapers with scissors.

The educators changed the home corner area by placing a large wooden pallet with material to make an Asian style table with bowls, spoons and assorted wooden sushi for the children to play and explore.

At group time the children have been learning the letters C, D, E and now F. The children have been singing the alphabet song since late January and are very good at pronouncing the letters correctly. We have also been singing 5 Speckled frogs, Miss Polly had a dolly, Incy Wincy Spider and the Little Peter Rabbit song.

For Easter the Busy Bee children decorated their own basket, by pasting rabbit faces and ribbons onto their basket. The children also got to make their own rabbit ear hats. We hope all our families enjoyed their Easter break.

We say goodbye to Ryan who has moved up to the Kinder Room and welcome Henry from the Ducklings Room. In May we will be celebrating Mother’s day. The children have worked really hard to decorate a large glass jar, donated by parents, with coloured paint. The children then made their own tissue paper flowers to place inside the vase. The educators pressed flowers that were donated from our families. The children then pasted them onto coloured cardboard and we made bookmarks for their mum’s for Mother’s day.

Over the past week, beginning the 5th May the Busy Bee children have been doing cooking with the educators in the room. We made yellow rice with curry potatoes, yoghurt, we juiced fresh oranges to make orange juice, fried rice with vegies, banana smoothies and chicken curry and rice. Over the week the educators have taken photos of the children cooking and will place these photos into your child’s portfolio to keep.

Over the next month we will be talking to the children about families, the different types of families and who is in our family. We will set up an area with a house and assorted people and pets for the children to explore and play with. We will also be introducing LEADER OF THE DAY , where all the children will have the opportunity to be a leader. The child will help the educators setup tables for lunch, take part in group times and learn to help each other with tasks and take responsibility as a leader. We will let all the parents know what day their child will be a leader, once we make the list.

Parents if you have any old recyclable cd’s or dvd’s can you please donate them to the Busy Bees Room, we will be using them to make our FAMILY TREE.

WE WISH ALL OUR BUSY BEE MUM’S A VERY HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY FOR SUNDAY 11TH MAY 2014.
